For Immediate Release – Out of The Box
(Las Vegas, Nevada) It is an all too-common experience: a parent spends time and money buying a special toy for their youngster, and ultimately, the child is more curious about the box that housed the gift, than the gift itself.
The newly released children’s picture book, “A BOX STORY,” beautifully illustrates some of the reasons for this phenomenon. Through hand-drawn imagery, this story sets the stage for how a simple box can be a metaphor for something bigger, a world that children can create or further enhance with the use of their own imagination.
Author and illustrator Kenneth Kit Lamug all too often has experienced first hand the mystical effects of a cardboard box with his own children. Compelled to share his own techniques of pushing children’s imaginations farther along, he put his pencil to paper and this springboard for children was born.
Recently, Mr. Lamug’s illustrations won first place at the 2011 Vegas Valley Comic Book Festival Badge Art Competition and at the 2011 Nevada SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) Identity Contest. Also an avid photographer, his work has been showcased in many exhibits worldwide. Winning the 2011 Best of Show for Black and White Art Night, his photographs were also featured on National Public Radio’s 100 Words Photography Feature. Mr. Lamug also was a finalist in the 2010 Photographers’ Forum Magazine “Best of Photography” International Competition.
“Creativity is something that we all have, and I believe that a box is just a blank canvas that each one of us can fill with our individual art and passion. Unfortunately for some, a box can be seen at face value, its walls acting as a barrier to an individual’s thoughts and dreams. I had to share this message in my own unique way, and I hope that my young readers open their minds and hearts to endless possibilities,” Mr. Lamug said.
Mr. Lamug is a member of the Nevada Chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and a member of ThinkArt!, a non-profit artist community organization.
“A BOX STORY” is currently available on Amazon.com and will soon be released on tablet book readers.
